TIP #9: Remote Control

INVEST IN A PRESENTATION REMOTE

Controlling your presentation with a remote rather than using a mouse allows you to interact with your audience and avoids you being tethered to your computer to walk the space. You may purchase a dedicated remote control, download a remote app for your mobile phone, or ask a colleague to manually control the slideshow while you’re presenting. The prices for a decent presentation remote control will run anywhere from $20 – $120. Pricing is based on the technological capabilities of the hardware and its Bluetooth® range. Some have a laser pointer for highlighting content and/or a toggle with mouse-like controls. No matter if you have an iPhone® or Android®, there are remote control applications that will fit your needs. Most of the apps are free but ensure that the app you choose works with the operating system your presenting on; e.g. Windows vs. Apple. If you run into a last-minute bind, ask a colleague to manually assist.
