Tip #8: Animation in Moderation

ANIMATION SHOULD BE USED TO COMPLIMENT THE PRESENTATION, NOT DISTRACT THE AUDIENCE

Animation used correctly can help drive talking points and create a more exciting viewing experience. However, overusing it may cause confusion and become overly distracting. The best way to avoid these issues is to prevent it all together or at the very least use it sparingly. Let your content be the hero.

REVEAL BODY COPY IN SECTIONS AS YOU SPEAK TO THE VARIOUS POINTS

Nothing kills a presentation faster than people reading ahead. Use animation features to show content and graphics as you go thereby revealing your key points at the appropriate time. Make sure to you focus on timing and breaking up the information into smaller, meaningful bits.

AVOID GIMMICKY SLIDE TRANSITIONS AND SOUND EFFECTS

Avoid slide transitions and complex effects that don’t contribute to your topic. Sound effects can be a creative way to draw attention to your presentation but if you choose to use them, make sure you have an audio setup, and please be tasteful!
