Talking about ourselves in our communications goes against everything we teach when we speak about messaging strategy. Our core message should always be about making our customers’ lives better and how we (our brands) are positioned as ‘the guide’ to help them (the hero in the story) rise up and overcome their most difficult challenges.
So what’s one to do when there’s a significant business milestone worth sharing? Break the rule, of course!
It’s been said that if a business has made it to its 10th anniversary, it’s considered a major achievement. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, only about 35% of businesses survive to see their 10th year. So naturally, seeing as May 2022 formally marks CCG’s 10th year in business, I’m ecstatic as we share this meaningful milestone in our company’s history. We couldn’t be more excited about what’s to come. While the landscape of our business may look very different from 2012, our mission remains the same:
To help B2B manufacturers and B2C professional services firms survive and thrive by developing creative solutions that help them create awareness, cultivate trust, and build lasting relationships — while delivering a consistent and memorable brand experience to their customers.
When I was laid off from a corporate flavor & fragrance manufacturer in 2012, I had the vision to create a boutique graphic design firm that crafted high-quality print and on-screen deliverables that got people excited and made them genuinely proud of their brand.
At that time, I couldn’t have imagined, over a decade, having my business evolve into a full-service creative marketing studio capable of providing a 360-degree solution of creative services. While 2012 was arguably the worst year of my professional life due to both my and my wife’s job loss, I also lost my father to cancer.
The kick in the teeth was jarring, but we got back up and dusted ourselves off because it was time for a change. It was time to begin a new era where I had more control.
Like most, I started this business in the attic of my old Woodbridge, NJ home and called it George Costello Creative LLC. What else would I call it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ After about a year and a half of talking to myself and inanimate objects from time to time, I realized how isolating it was to work alone, so in 2014, I transitioned to a local co-working space, where I made my first hire and began to build out my team.
By 2015, we were spilling out of our cubicles and needed production space, so I moved myself and two employees into a shared office space just down the street in downtown Woodbridge. We shared the space with Technology Visionaries, a local IT firm where we continued to grow in size and expertise. It’s also where I truly began to understand the importance of personal development and being around other business owners.
In 2017 we made a bold move. For a host of reasons, one of which was the business no longer relied solely on me — we decided it was time to rebrand and introduce the name ‘Group,’ and Costello Creative Group was born.
In 2018, I joined the Entrepreneurs Association, which was and continues to be a serious game-changer for learning, accountability, and overall business growth.
A couple of years later, in 2019, after moving my home to Sayreville, NJ, with my wife Janine and 3-yr old son Deklin, we decided to make the boldest move yet and move into our very own custom-built office about one mile from my home.
We’ve been in our current space for about three years now. While we never had an opportunity to have an official grand opening due to Covid, it’s one of the smartest moves we’ve ever made because we have a modern and collaborative studio space with room to grow. Plus, we need room for all of our awards! ;P
While 2020 was obviously a slow year for accolades, 2021 most certainly was not. Despite the global turmoil, our achievements didn’t go unrecognized by The Communicator Awards. Our interactive presentation deck for Green Line took home gold, while our website design for Citrus and Allied and our corporate brochure for Finalsite each took home a silver.
When you reflect on a decade of history, it can be overwhelming, but I’m so thankful for my team, my network of peers, and our amazing clients that entrust our firm to guide them to victory each and every day.
A HUGE thank you to my amazing team, past & present, for being able to preserve an 85% retention rate, an A+ Accreditation by the Better Business Bureau, and a 5-Star Google Rating.
