Google Fonts: What Is There To Write Home About?
Let’s break it down into (5) key points:
1) They work on most, if not all browsers, and their font styles display consistently on electronic devices of all types and sizes. Skipping over the hassles of different displays and removing the need for constant dev tweaking, with Google Fonts, the verbal picture stays the same, no matter the aspect ratio or device!
2) They are provided by Google, a secure and (mostly) trusted developer and they come in lots of styles/cases. As such, they are regularly applied with the newest updates and releases.
3) They can be used across Google Workspace, an in-house suite of common programs like Google Sheets (think Excel or Numbers), Google Docs (think Word or Pages), and Google Sheets (think Powerpoint & Keynote). All 3 (and more) of Google’s main offerings work with Google Fonts to provide consistent style, functionality, and online presence to your digital collateral.
4) They can be used to more easily collaborate with open sources. The entire font catalog is open source and available to anyone, making beautifully consistent typography and consistently beautiful iconography accessible to anyone, for any project.
5) They can even make the web faster! By delivering the smallest and most efficient amount of data possible, Google’s server technology speeds up load times and eliminates unnecessary caching of large files.
Not only easy to access, use, and share, these font styles are available everywhere AND created by a trusted developer…they make browsing the internet faster and they make working together easier?!? It’s really a no-brainer…you need to switch to Google Fonts. Preferably sooner rather than later…
Making The Switch To Google Fonts Will Be Important
While your trusty font book and your current fonts might be safe for now, as discussed in a previous blog…BIG CHANGES ARE COMING TO CERTAIN FONTS IN THE FUTURE. But the change from Postscript 1 isn’t the only change that’s guaranteed to happen—with Google’s constant need for improvement and optimization, they understand the immediate benefits of Google Fonts for themselves, advertisers, and users. More time to surf the internet? More time to search Google…
Instead of waiting for the announcement, start using Google Fonts whenever possible. That way, when the change does happen, you’ll already be typing smoothly and worry-free.
